Job description

Position Title: Registered Medication Aide

Department: Nursing. Reports to Resident Care Director.

Position Summary
  • Must have successfully completed coursework and examinations to obtain certification as a Resident Care Associate as per State regulations.
  • Comply with standards of business conduct in accordance with federal, state, and local health and regulatory standards and guidelines, as applicable.
  • Must complete required continued education and maintain certification per State regulations.
  • Must possess knowledge of state medication technique.
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Must work well with peers in a congenial work environment and maintain utmost compassion, dignity to the residents, and adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights.
  • In exigent circumstances, may be subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, temporary staffing shortages).
  • Must adhere to Viva Senior Living’s attendance policies and follow terms of employment as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must maintain highest standards in caring and servicing residents and their families.
  • Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Administer and accurately record the administration of medications for residents as prescribed by physicians, following established policies and applicable state/federal regulations.
  • Observe, record, and report to the Resident Care Director or designee symptoms related to medication interactions, adverse drug reactions, or side effects.
  • Determine and record effectiveness of medications in a timely manner.
  • Store medications safely and accurately, ensuring accountability at all times.
  • Monitor medications to ensure adequate accountability during ordering, receipt, administration, and hand‑off.
  • Inspect, clean, and monitor equipment and supplies for resident safety; report any issues for correction or repair.
  • Obtain, record, and report vital signs as indicated during medication administration.
  • Demonstrate infection control practices, use Universal Precautions, and follow OSHA’s Blood‑borne Pathogen Standard.
  • Communicate to residents, staff, and others accurately and factually; seek clarification or refer questions when indicated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or listed in the Resident Care Associate job description.
  • Arrive at work at the scheduled time.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Ensure residents and families receive high‑quality, compassionate service.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, or hazardous chemicals per policy.
  • Report work‑related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
  • Complete all assigned training and competency.
  • Participate in life safety and emergency drills and trainings.
  • Fulfill responsibilities during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.
  • Assist with evacuation of residents in emergencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Protected Health Information.
  • Report non‑compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality.
  • Protect residents from abuse and cooperate with investigations.
  • Report allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation, exploitation, or mistreatment to supervisor or administrator.
  • Report retaliation or discrimination to the Human Resource Director and the Compliance Officer.
  • Report suspicions of a crime to law enforcement and the state agency.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must hold Resident Care Associate certification and maintain it.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must have functional vision and hearing, or use prosthetics to enable these senses adequately.
  • Must meet general health requirements, including medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and agitated residents.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May assist in evacuation of residents during emergencies.
