Job summary

Delve Underground in Washington, DC seeks a Resident Engineer with 15–20 years of construction management experience in heavy underground construction, including tunnel and shaft work. The role reports to project leadership and oversees field teams, change management, and client coordination to deliver projects on time and on budget.

The position requires strong leadership, planning, and communication skills, with a willingness to work swing or night shifts as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in heavy infrastructure construction, tunnels and shafts.
  • Valid Professional Engineering license is desired.
  • Experience reading contract drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage office personnel and Inspectors.
  • Advise Client on critical project tasks and troubleshoot issues.
  • Review field paperwork including RFIs, schedules, and logs.
  • Oversee Change Orders, Overruns, and Claims.
  • Run all construction field meetings and site inspections.
  • Maintain communication with Client and Owner to meet time and budget targets.

Pay Rate: $120,954 - $219,313

Delve Underground is looking for Resident Engineers with 15-20 years of construction management experience and heavy underground construction.

This posting is not for a specific project - available position locations will vary.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage office personnel, including Office Engineer, Community Liaison, Assistant Resident Engineers, and Inspectors.
  • Advise the Client on all critical project tasks and troubleshoot project issues.
  • Review field paperwork, to include:
    • Requests for Information (RFI)
    • Construction Schedules
    • Inspection Reports and Logs
    • Agendas and Meeting Minutes
    • Change Management Logs
    • Safety Plans and Safety Audits
    • Contractor and CM Payments
    • Contractor Submittals
    • Permitting
  • Oversee and negotiate Change Orders, Overruns, and Claims.
  • Run all construction field meetings.
  • Oversee field inspections of the Contractor's work.
  • Interact with the Prime Contractor performing the work and maintain a professional relationship with them to provide the Client with the highest quality end-product.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the Client and/or Owner to facilitate the completion of work on time and on budget and to better address construction conflicts in an effort to minimize their impact on the project schedule and budget.
  • Perform other tasks as deemed necessary to facilitate the construction work.
Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Project Management or other related construction field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Professional Engineering license is desired.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience with heavy infrastructure construction including tunnel and shaft construction.
  • Knowledge of tunneling, microtunneling, HDD, and shaft excavation construction is a plus.
  • Ability to manage a number of concurrent assignments and priorities, and supervise, train, and mentor construction office personnel, including Office Engineer, Community Liaison, Assistant Resident Engineers, and inspection staff.
  • Strong team building, analytical and technical communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency and versed in Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • CAD knowledge and drafting experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Primavera software is ideal.
  • Experience reading contract drawings and specifications.
  • Willingness to work swing or night shifts when needed during Contract work.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position to perform field inspections which include: the ability to navigate over rough terrain, descend/ascend ladders into trenches or deep shafts and carry up to 30 lbs. as needed.
  • ACI (Grade 1), Hazwoper, Confined Space, Fall Protection and Various training certificates a plus.
