Job summary

SCN - Search Consulting Network is seeking a Resident Engineer to provide onsite technical support at the GM Technical Center in Warren, MI. This full-time role requires serving as the primary technical liaison between GM and the supplier's teams, supporting metal components and assemblies, and addressing engineering changes and manufacturing concerns.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in automotive engineering, a degree in mechanical/manufacturing engineering (preferred), and must be authorized

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of automotive engineering experience, preferably Tier 1 or GM.
  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship; no future sponsorship required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as main technical liaison between GM and supplier teams.
  • Support metal automotive components and assemblies; address technical issues and changes.
  • Read drawings and GD&T; drive root-cause and corrective actions.
  • Work onsite at GM Technical Center in Warren, MI; operate independently in an OEM environment.

Job description

We are helping our client, a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier, find an experienced Resident Engineer to provide onsite technical support at the GM Technical Center in Warren, MI.

Position Highlight:
  • Full-Time, onsite role in Warren, MI
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between GM and the supplier's engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams
  • Support metal automotive components and assemblies, including technical issues, engineering changes, product development, manufacturing concerns, and customer requirements
  • Work directly with OEM engineering and technical teams
  • MUST be authorized to work in the US without current or future sponsorship
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field preferred
  • 5+ years of automotive engineering experience, preferably with a Tier 1 supplier or GM
  • Strong knowledge of metal automotive components and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with precision-machined, cast, forged, formed, or fabricated automotive components
  • Experience with some combination of:
  • Chassis/Structural: suspension components, subframes, shock towers, cross-car structures
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and tolerances
  • Experience troubleshooting component and manufacturing issues and driving root-cause/corrective actions
  • Strong technical communication and customer-facing skills
  • Ability to work independently in an OEM environment
Highly Preferred:
  • Previous experience working directly with GM
  • Previous onsite experience at a GM technical center or manufacturing facility
  • Experience with powertrain, transmission, driveline, chassis, structural, or EV components
  • Familiarity with Stellantis engineering systems, standards, processes, and requirements
  • Strong understanding of machining, casting, forging, forming, tooling, and other metal manufacturing processes
  • Experience supporting PPAP, APQP, validation, launches, prototypes, and engineering changes
