WSP is seeking a Resident Engineer for Seattle or Tacoma to lead construction management on transportation, municipal, utility, and public infrastructure projects throughout Washington and the Pacific Northwest. The successful candidate will act as the Owner's primary field representative, overseeing contract administration, documentation, and coordination with inspectors.

A Civil Engineering or Construction Management background with 10+ years of experience is required; PE preferred and travel

Resident Engineer (Construction Management)

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Resident Engineer for our Seattle or Tacoma office, to support transportation, municipal, utility, and public infrastructure projects throughout Washington and the Pacific Northwest. This position serves as the primary field representative for the Owner and is responsible for construction administration, contract compliance, project documentation, contractor coordination, schedule monitoring, quality management, and oversight of inspection staff.

The successful candidate will lead construction management teams on complex public works projects, coordinate with owners, designers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract requirements.

Your Impact

• Serve as the primary field representative and main point of contact for the Owner.
• Lead daily construction administration activities for transportation, bridge, roadway, utility, and civil infrastructure projects.
• Supervise inspectors, office engineers, document control specialists, and other project staff.
• Review plans, specifications, contract documents, RFIs, submittals, schedules, and change requests.
• Monitor contractor performance for compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, project schedules, and quality expectations.
• Facilitate construction progress meetings and coordinate communication among project stakeholders.
• Review and recommend progress payments, change orders, claims, and contract modifications.
• Evaluate construction issues and develop practical solutions to maintain project objectives.
• Coordinate with design teams regarding field changes, design clarifications, and constructability issues.
• Review project schedules and monitor potential impacts to budget and completion dates.
• Ensure project documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
• Oversee materials documentation, testing records, certifications, and quality assurance requirements.
• Support compliance with federal, state, and local funding requirements, including FHWA and WSDOT requirements when applicable.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to company and project-specific safety policies.
• Mentor and develop junior staff and inspection personnel.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

These responsibilities are consistent with internal Resident Engineer position descriptions, which emphasize construction administration, contractor coordination, RFI/submittal review, documentation, schedule monitoring, contract modification recommendations, and supervision of field staff.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field or equivalent.
• 10+ years of construction management, construction engineering, inspection, or public works construction experience.
• Experience serving as a Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, Assistant Resident Engineer, Project Engineer, or equivalent role.
• Demonstrated experience administering public works construction contracts.
• Knowledge of construction documentation, change management, claims avoidance, and project controls.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, special provisions, and contract requirements.
• Experience coordinating with owners, contractors, designers, and regulatory agencies.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM), PMP, or similar professional certification.
• Experience on federally funded transportation projects.
• WSDOT, local agency, transit, bridge, utility, or heavy civil construction experience.
• Familiarity with e-Builder, Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, or other construction management software.
• Experience managing inspection staff and multidisciplinary project teams.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $174,400 - $213,200

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
