Job summary

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection seeks a Resident Assistant Park Manager – SES to oversee visitor services, resource management, maintenance, administration, and protection at T.H. Stone Memorial St.Joseph Peninsula State Park.

Based at Port St. Joe, FL, you will supervise staff, coordinate training, enforce park rules, and lead ecological and infrastructure projects to preserve park resources and ensure a high-quality visitor experience.

Qualifications

• Residence on park property is required.
• Valid Florida Class E driver's license or equivalent.
• Background screening required.
• Experience supervising staff and coordinating training.

• Oversee daily visitor services, including interpretive programs, problem resolution, and public relations.
• Lead resource management initiatives such as ecological burning, water level management, native species propagation, erosion control, and exotic species removal.
• Identify maintenance needs through inspections and schedule repairs for buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water & wastewater systems, vehicles, and equipment.
• Enforce park rules for natural, historical, and archaeological resources to ensure visitor enjoyment.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

• Knowledge of: building maintenance and construction; Florida Park Service management, operations, and mission; heavy equipment operation and maintenance; use of computers and related software.
• Skill in: using hand tools, small engines, and power tools.
• Ability to: supervise people; determine work priorities; assign tasks and ensure completion; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; prepare and maintain schedules and reports.

Minimum Qualifications

• Reside on park property.
• Hold a valid Florida ClassE driver’s license or an equivalent out‑of‑state license.

Background Screening

Position of trust – requires a Level2 State and National criminal history check. Employment will not commence until screening results are received and approved.
