Job summary

Fairmont State University is seeking a Resident Assistant for the Spring Semester to support freshman orientation, campus visitation days, and daily residence hall operations on the Main Campus. You will man desks, participate in programs with the Resident Director, and respond to crises around the clock, while modeling professionalism and confidentiality.

The role requires current full-time student status with a minimum 2.5 GPA, residence in multi-story halls, and the ability to navigate

Qualifications

  • RA candidates should have one year of residence hall experience or related experience.
  • RAs are allowed one weekend off during specific months.
  • RAs must be in assigned residence hall before certain times (midnight to 2am).
  • Attend Fall and Spring training; mandatory RA interest session and two weeks of training in August.
  • Be full time students, in good academic standing (GPA 2.5) and conduct.
  • Must live in multi-story residence halls and navigate stairs/equipment.
  • Demonstrate leadership and administrative skills; experience planning events and crises preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with freshman orientation and campus visitation days.

  • Conduct regular rounds to ensure building safety and security.
  • Respond to crisis situations in the residence halls 24 hours a day.
  • Provide personal help and assistance to residents and initiate contact with those needing support.
  • Plan and participate in programs with the Resident Director; support Welcome Weekend and other housing events.
  • Maintain confidentiality and act as a positive role model; journal monthly as directed.
  • Enforce university and residence hall rules and document violations.

Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Duties include various aspects of freshman orientation and campusvisitation days, working the desk in each respective hall, andevening and weekend responsibilities.
  • Conduct rounds in the building on a regular basis to ensure thebuilding is safe and secure.
  • Respond to crisis situations in the residence halls 24 hours aday.
  • Provide personal help and assistance to residents.
  • Initiate contact with residents who appear to need support, or contact students at the direction of the Resident Director. RAsshould be available and accessible to students.
  • Plan and participate in programs and activities for residentswith the Resident Director.
  • Support Welcome Weekend, the Back to School Fall Bash, and allother Housing and Residence Life programs.
  • Be a positive role model
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Provide leadership by displaying enthusiasm and a positiveattitude toward activities in the community.
  • Required to journal at least once a month, or at the discretionof the Resident Director.
  • Enforce rules and regulations (know and support all Universityand/or residence hall rules.)
  • Document all violations and participate as required in thestudent conduct system.
Minimum Qualifications
  • It is recommended that RA candidates have one year of previousresidence hall experience, but other types of experiences can besubmitted.
  • RAs are allowed one weekend off during the following months:September, October, November, January, February, March, andApril.
  • RAs must be in their assigned residence hall before midnightSunday through Thursday and by 2am on Friday and Saturday. (RAs areallowed one night off a week where he or she will not have to meetthese time frames.)
  • Candidates are required to participate in Fall and Springtraining.
  • Be full time students, in good academic (maintain 2.5 cumulativeGPA ) and good student conduct standing
  • Candidates must live in multiple-story residence halls and mustbe able to navigate stairs and equipment associated with theposition.
  • Willing to attend mandatory RA interest session and two weeks oftraining in August.
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership and administrativeskills.
  • Experience planning student events and responding to crisissituations is preferred.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal andeffective communication skills.
  • Candidates should have an awareness of and sensitivity to others,a high level of maturity, sound judgment, emotional stability,flexibility, and willingness to accept responsibility.

Will need to provide recommendations, staff evaluations, andexamples of previous work experience.
