Residence Life Coordinator

Job No: 555047 | Location: Northern California: Humboldt | Employment: Full‑time, Staff | Salary: $5,083–$7,228 per month (USD).

Position Summary

Professional, live‑in Residence Life Coordinator responsible for advocating student well‑being, overseeing 8–21 student leaders, and coordinating housing initiatives that promote curricular and co‑curricular engagement. The role supports a socially just, team‑oriented, academically centered residence life environment.

Key Responsibilities

Student Staff Supervision and Community Development (40%)

  • Hire, train, and evaluate Resident Advisors and Lead Resident Advisors.
  • Plan and organize ongoing staff training and duty schedules.
  • Monitor job performance through weekly meetings.
  • Implement housing community development model.
  • Track and assess program outcomes; maintain staff and area council budgets.
  • Maintain a strong community presence and collaborate with campus partners.

Community Action Conference (Student Behavior Management) (20%)

  • Review and explain housing and university policy.
  • Review incident reports and conduct Community Action Conferences.
  • Document findings and mediate high-level roommate conflicts.

Professional Staff Team Member (10%)

  • Attend residence life and department meetings; serve on committees.
  • Develop and participate in professional development training.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for new team members.

Duty and Crisis Response (5%)

  • Respond to emergencies, provide initial contact for emergency personnel, and rotate on‑call duty.
  • Provide regular updates on incidents.

Resident Advocate (5%)

  • Facilitate problem‑solving meetings among residents.
  • Act as a resource and provide referrals; provide academic advising when needed.

Advise Student Groups (5%)

  • Advise area councils, attend meetings, and mentor student staff.
  • Meet regularly with council leadership.

Oversee Facilities (5%)

  • Work with custodial, grounds, and maintenance staff to ensure safe and clean living areas.
  • Follow up on building damage issues.

Administrative (5%)

  • Complete weekly and annual reports, assist with hiring process, and submit budget paperwork.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Other Duties (5%)

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures related to student services programs.
  • General knowledge of organizational and program management, research and interview techniques, and principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Solid administrative and organizational skills; effective interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments.
  • Obtain factual information through interviews and use logical reasoning.
  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate data; make written and verbal presentations.
  • Advise students individually and in groups; recognize multicultural values and work accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with faculty, administrators, student organizations, and community partners.
  • Rapidly acquire knowledge of Cal Poly Humboldt’s operations, functions, and programs.
  • Make decisions that have implications for other program or service areas.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university in a behavioral science, public or business administration, or related field.
  2. Experience: Two years of professional experience in student services or a related field; a master’s degree may substitute one year of experience.
  3. Valid California Class C driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Sociology, Social Work, or related field.
  2. Experience with on‑campus housing and advising special interest groups.
  3. Ability to speak Spanish.
