Job summary

Crescent Energy seeks a Reservoir Engineer to support asset development and portfolio growth in West Texas/Permian and other unconventional basins. You will perform reservoir engineering, economic analysis, and competitive intelligence to evaluate acreage, leasing, trades and development opportunities.

The role requires strong communication, analytical rigor, and the ability to provide practical recommendations with incomplete information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5–15 years of upstream experience with reservoir engineering.
• Experience evaluating unconventional reservoirs and economic evaluation.
• Strong proficiency in ARIES for economic evaluation and decline-curve analysis.
• Experience with Spotfire and PowerBI for visualization.

Responsibilities

• Apply Crescent’s playbooks, forecast maps, type curves, subsurface interpretations and economic assumptions to assets under evaluation.
• Develop production forecasts and economic evaluations for acreage, trades, leasing opportunities and development scenarios.
• Use ARIES, Whitson, Spotfire, public data and other tools to assess well performance, inventory potential, development timing and costs.
• Partner with Land, Geoscience and Investment teams to identify and prioritize opportunities.
• Evaluate how leases and trades could improve working interest, lateral length, and asset value.
• Communicate assumptions, risks, and recommendations to technical, commercial and leadership audiences.
• Manage multiple evaluations with analytical rigor and speed to support timely decisions.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships and contribute to team energy and camaraderie.

We are seeking a Reservoir Engineer to support asset development and portfolio growth across our unconventional assets, with an initial focus on West Texas/Permian Basin. This role will apply reservoir engineering, economic analysis, and competitive intelligence to evaluate acreage, leasing, trade, development, and other growth opportunities.

The Reservoir Engineer will work closely with Land, Geoscience, the Investment team, and asset leadership. The successful candidate will be a reservoir engineer first: technically credible, commercially minded, able to work quickly, and comfortable making practical recommendations with incomplete information.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply Crescent’s basin-level playbooks, forecast maps, type curves, subsurface interpretations, and economic assumptions to assets and opportunities under evaluation.
• Develop fit-for-purpose production forecasts and economic evaluations for acreage, trades, leasing opportunities, and development scenarios.
• Use ARIES, Whitson, Spotfire, public data, and other analytical tools to assess well performance, inventory potential, development timing, costs, and economic sensitivities.
• Partner with Land, Geoscience, and the Investment team to identify, screen, and prioritize acreage and portfolio-growth opportunities.
• Evaluate how potential leases and trades could improve working interest, lateral length, inventory quality, development efficiency, and overall asset value.
• Monitor competitor activity, well results, permits, transactions, acreage positions, and development strategies to identify implications and opportunities for Crescent.
• Clearly communicate assumptions, uncertainty, risks, sensitivities, and recommendations to technical, commercial, and leadership audiences.
• Manage multiple fast-moving evaluations while balancing analytical rigor with the speed required to support timely decisions.
• Build strong working relationships across the organization and contribute positively to the energy, trust, and camaraderie of the team.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Typically 5–15 years of relevant upstream experience, including a strong foundation in reservoir engineering. Capability, judgment, and technical credibility are more important than exact tenure.
• Experience evaluating unconventional reservoirs through production forecasting, decline analysis, rate-transient analysis, analogs, and economic evaluation.
• Strong proficiency in ARIES for economic evaluation and decline-curve analysis.
• Proficiency with Whitson+ or comparable production-analysis and RTA software.
• Experience using Spotfire, PowerBI or similar analytical and visualization tools.
• Ability to develop clear, defensible recommendations from incomplete or conflicting information.
• Strong communication skills and a proven team-first mentality.

Preferred Qualifications

• Permian Basin experience. Experience in other unconventional basins will also be considered.
• Experience supporting leasing, trades, acreage valuation, portfolio optimization, business development, or A&D evaluations.
• Experience working directly with Land, Geoscience, Investments, Finance, or corporate-development teams.
• Broad exposure to development planning, production operations, drilling, or completions.
