Job description

What You Will Do
The Chemistry Division's Actinide Analytical Chemistry Group (C-AAC) seeks a chemical laboratory technologist to perform high-quality work in a security‑focused environment. The role involves characterizing, neutralizing, and absorbing nuclear material while collaborating with technicians, technologists, and scientists. Applicants must meet LANL’s safety and security standards, demonstrate excellent customer service, documentation, and communication skills.

Research Technologist 1
  • Conduct technical work independently under supervisory direction after qualification.
  • Work with nuclear material in gloveboxes and hoods.
  • Perform waste management support in CMR and RLUOB.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate records.
  • Perform pH, nitrate, chemical oxygen demand, and radiological screening of aqueous solutions.
  • Adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance relevant to work area.
  • Follow all applicable safety and security practices in a nuclear facility.
  • Protect and maintain sensitive or classified information as required by national security objectives.
Research Technologist 2
  • Prepare documentation to ensure regulatory compliance with partnering organizations.
  • Lead review activities of personnel, ensuring work meets quality specifications and established requirements.
  • Contribute to development of techniques and fulfillment of program goals.
  • Resolve moderately complex problems by reviewing multiple factors.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Experience working in nuclear facilities.
  • Experience with corrosive and hazardous materials.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated good communication skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience in a highly regulated environment.
  • Experience using personal protective equipment, including respirators.
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance (typically requires U.S. citizenship).
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with plutonium.
  • Glovebox worker experience in a nuclear facility.
  • Experience under an NQA‑1 or equivalent quality assurance program.
Essential Job Functions
  • Ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 Hz).
  • Standing, bending, climbing stairs, using both hands, arms, legs, and feet.
  • Lifting 20‑30 pounds.
Work Location

The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Shift Work

Shift work may be required, with potential shift differential pay as assigned by management.
