Job summary

Kelly Scientific is seeking a Research Technologist for a Baytown, TX site within a leading oil, gas and petrochemical company. The role involves operating multiple analytical instruments, preparing samples, and collecting high-quality data in a collaborative lab environment.

You will work with Ph.D. chemists, follow established procedures, maintain safety and quality records, mentor new technicians, and support testing activities on an 8-hour on-site shift.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with laboratory or industrial experience.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining high safety, accuracy and reliability.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate, troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment such as viscometers and gas chromatographs.
• Prepare samples and perform routine and non-routine analytical testing.
• Calculate, analyze, and document test results accurately.
• Maintain safety, housekeeping, and quality data records.
• Prepare calibration standards and perform instrument calibrations and QC checks.
• Maintain inventory and update P&ID drawings as needed.
• Safely handle hydrocarbon samples and materials.
• Collaborate with Ph.D. chemists and other professionals to support testing activities.
• Assist in training and mentoring new technicians on procedures and safe work practices.

Laboratory Technician II

Job Summary

• Perform work in a collaborative laboratory environment involving the operation of multiple analytical instruments.
• Conduct experiments by following established procedures and collecting high-quality analytical data.
• The position is located at the Baytown Technology and Engineering Complex (BTEC) and follows an 8-hour workday schedule.

Primary Job Functions

• Maintain laboratory safety, housekeeping, and security standards.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including viscometers, gas chromatographs, QUV Accelerated Weathering Testers, QFOG instruments, and other analytical testing equipment.
• Prepare samples and perform routine and non-routine analytical testing.
• Calculate, analyze, interpret, and accurately document test results.
• Maintain compliance with Quality requirements related to data generation and recordkeeping.
• Prepare liquid calibration standards and perform instrument calibrations and statistical quality control (SQC) checks to ensure data accuracy and compliance with established guidelines.
• Maintain laboratory inventory and update P&ID drawings as needed.
• Safely handle a variety of hydrocarbon samples and materials.
• Collaborate daily with Ph.D. chemists and other technical professionals to support research and testing activities.
• Assist in training and mentoring new technicians on laboratory procedures, analytical techniques, and safe work practices.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering discipline, with relevant laboratory or industrial experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and reliability in a laboratory environment.
