Job summary

Scripps Research in La Jolla, California, is seeking a Research Technician to perform a variety of routine scientific tasks, prepare experimental samples and operate standard lab equipment of moderate complexity.

You will handle mammalian cell culture, molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation, PCR and cloning, and assist with imaging, data analysis and sample preparation for genomic and proteomic studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline, or 3–6 years of related lab experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques is preferred.

Responsibilities

• General laboratory organization and upkeep
• Mammalian cell culture, including maintenance of primary cultures and cell lines
• Molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, viral production, and cloning
• Mouse colony husbandry, sample collection, and census record-keeping
• Preparation of samples for genomic and proteomic studies
• Fluorescence imaging and data analysis
• Other related duties, tasks, and responsibilities as required or assigned

POSITION TITLE

Research Technician

Position Summary

Perform a variety of routine scientific tasks; may prepare experimental samples and conduct imaging experiments; set up and operate standard lab equipment of moderate complexity.

Responsibilities And Duties

• General laboratory organization and upkeep
• Mammalian cell culture, including maintenance of primary cultures and cell lines
• Molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, viral production, and cloning
• Mouse colony husbandry, sample collection, and census record-keeping
• Preparation of samples for genomic and proteomic studies
• Fluorescence imaging and data analysis
• Other related duties, tasks, and responsibilities as required or assigned

Requirements

• Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline and up to one (1) year of related experience.
• Three (3) to six (6) years of related laboratory experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Compensation

The expected hiring range for this position is $18.67 to $24 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
