Job summary

The University of Rochester is hiring a Tech III to support the Musculoskeletal Research Center in investigating soft tissue fibrosis. You will manage a large mouse colony, perform surgeries, and assist with tissue analyses and data management.

This full-time, day-shift role requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work independently or with a team. A High School diploma is required, with an Associate degree preferred and 5 years of relevant experience encouraged.

  • Isolate rodent tissues for molecular analyses (e.g., qPCR, Western blotting).
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook and assist with data analysis.

Responsibilities

This Tech III position will be expected to provide technical assistance to support the lab’s overarching aim of investigating soft tissue fibrosis, with duties as follows.

  • Maintain a large mouse colony (50‑100 cages) with breeding, genotyping, and detailed electronic inventory records.
  • Perform aseptic rodent recovery surgeries in support of ongoing research projects.
  • Dissect and isolate rodent tissues for histological analyses, including multiplex immunofluorescent staining, imaging via slidescanner, and quantitative analysis with appropriate software in collaboration with the HBMI Core.
  • Isolate rodent tissues for biomechanical testing in collaboration with the BMTI Core.
  • Perform rodent and human tissue lysis for molecular biology experiments (e.g., qPCR, Western blotting).
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook of protocols and experimental data, conduct routine data analysis and interpretation.
  • Other duties as assigned, including assisting other lab members and maintaining organization of laboratory equipment.
Minimum Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail (Preferred).
