Job summary

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a laboratory support professional to provide responsible technical assistance in a scientific setting in Dallas, Texas. The candidate will help with experiments, sample handling, and data recording under minimal supervision.

The role involves assisting with molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, tissue culture, and may include PCR/Western blot work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant coursework required; no or minimal experience acceptable
  • Two years of college with emphasis in the field of assignment or high school diploma equivalent accepted
  • Experience in laboratory settings is a plus but not mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine scientific and medical research tasks in biology, chemistry, physics, or related fields.
  • Assists in handling and manipulating small animal specimens for experiments.
  • Participates in molecular cloning tasks such as recombinant DNA, protein expression and purification.
  • Supports tissue culture experiments and related protocols.
  • Assists with Western Blot and PCR procedures as needed.
  • Maintains accurate data records and communicates results to supervisor.

JOB SUMMARY

Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.

Successful candidate will assist with the handling and experimental manipulation of various small animal species. This individual will assist in standard molecular cloning such as recombinant DNA, protein expression and purification, as well as tissue culture experiments. Prior experience with Western Blot and PCR is also preferred, as well as applicants with previous work experience with small animals.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience or
    Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or
    High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience
    No experience required with Bachelor's Degree or
    2 years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college or
    4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation or GED equivalent
JOB DUTIES
  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
