Job summary

University of Louisville is seeking a Research Technician II in Environmental Health Institute to support the Integrated Omics Core. You will coordinate routine project activities, manage data movement, organize storage, and prepare bioinformatics reports and visualizations.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience and familiarity with R, Python, Linux, and command-line workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
• Experience with bioinformatics tools and workflows, including R, Python, Linux, bash, or command-line applications.
• Experience with omics or biomedical research, research data management, scientific reporting, public repository submissions, or sequencing-core/vendor coordination.
• Strong organizational, communication, and Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, follow procedures, and learn new tools and workflows.

Responsibilities

• Assist with research data management, including upload, download, transfer, storage, backup, organization, file naming, folder structure, and maintenance of data-location records.
• Run established bioinformatics pipelines, documented commands, pre-written scripts, and standardized workflows for routine quality control, file conversion, data processing, summary generation, and basic analyses.
• Prepare project reports, quality-control summaries, summary tables, Microsoft Excel files, PowerPoint presentations, and customized scientific visualizations.
• Maintain project intake records, sample metadata, analysis and report status, timelines, software and resource-use records, workflow documentation, and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate logistics for sequencing cores and vendors, including tracking sample and data transfers, service requests, quotes, pricing information, purchase-related documentation, and delivery status.
• Assist with GEO, SRA, and other public repository submissions, including metadata preparation, file organization, data transfer, accession tracking, and submission records.

Position Description

The Research Technician II in the Environmental Health Institute will support the Integrated Omics Core by coordinating routine project activities; managing research data movement, organization, and storage; maintaining project records; preparing bioinformatics project reports; generating customized visualizations; executing documented bioinformatics workflows; coordinating service logistics with sequencing cores and vendors; and assisting with public data repository submissions.

Target Compensation

Maximum: $72,389.00

Minimum: $48,225.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
