Job Description

Position Description

The Single Cell Biology core facility at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is currently seeking a motivated research technician to develop and implement spatial ‘omics approaches. The core collaborates with scientists at CSHL and other regional institutions to design, execute, and interpret spatial transcriptomics and molecular imaging experiments, as well as develop custom imaging and in situ sequencing technologies for projects with specialized needs. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects across diverse scientific disciplines, including cancer biology, neuroscience, and plant genomics. College students graduating by summer 2025 are highly encouraged to apply.

Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Developing and optimizing protocols for the 10x Genomics Xenium and Visium spatial gene expression analysis platforms.
  2. Implementing and refining multiplexed immunofluorescence (mIF) protein imaging workflows on the Lunaphore COMET system.
  3. Preparing and processing tissue samples for spatial RNA and protein profiling, including fixation, sectioning, and staining.
  4. Collaborating with institutional scientists on projects with well-defined timelines and deliverables, demonstrating strong project management skills by working on experiments from inception to completion.
  5. Maintaining laboratory organization, instrumentation, and reagent inventories.
  6. Participating in the design, analysis, and presentation of experiments, applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical challenges and interpret results.
Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; 2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting preferred. Strong background in molecular biology, histology, or imaging, with experience handling and analyzing RNA, DNA, and proteins. Hands-on experience with tissue processing, microscopy, and fluorescence-based detection techniques preferred. Proven ability to work on projects from their initial planning stages through execution and analysis, demonstrating initiative, independence, and attention to detail. Candidate must be independent, creative, persistent, and thorough, with an enthusiasm for developing new and challenging protocols and techniques. Excellent collaboration and communication skills are essential. Special consideration for applicants with familiarity of advanced concepts, including image analysis, computational biology, high-content imaging, or microfluidics.
