Job summary

The Ohio State University invites applications for a Research Technician 1 in Surgery within Medicine, Cardiac. This fixed-term, 40-hour week position supports cancer research through a range of molecular biology techniques and data collection in a busy laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support scientific investigation in Cancer Research in the Department of Surgery.
• Independently conducts assigned experiments and performs molecular, cellular and biological techniques.
• Performs PCR, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, and Northern/Western analyses.
• Sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; maintains accurate records of lab activities.
• Oversees training of junior research staff and students in research methods and equipment operation.
• Sets up and operates laboratory equipment and monitors supplies and procurement.

Research Technician to assist and support scientific investigation to study Cancer Research as directed in the Department of Surgery; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures on lab animals; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.
