Job summary

Orsetti Seed Company in California is seeking a Research Technician to support plant variety development through disease screening and data collection. The role involves greenhouse care, field trials, and basic lab tasks as part of the Research & Development program.

Based in San Juan Bautista, this full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Plant Breeder. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Research & Development: Assist in the development of plant varieties through disease screening and selection; Collaborate with Plant Breeder and Assistant to achieve program objectives.
• Daily greenhouse care: General facility maintenance; General plant maintenance, seeding, fertilizing, watering, pruning, hand pollination, transplanting, seed collection and data collection; Monitor and report insect and disease problems.
• Field Work: Assist in planting field trials, including organizing seeds and flagging field; Assist in field crosses, including fruit harvest and seed extraction; Rogue Stock Seed field as directed.
• Lab: Assist as directed by individual breeder program.
