Job summary

Texas A&M University’s Biology Department seeks a Research Specialist II to support daily lab operations, perform experiments, manage a mouse colony, and supervise students and fellows. The role includes molecular biology, histology, and physiological recording tasks in a collaborative academic setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Six years of related experience in a specialized and relevant field of research.
• PhD in Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field preferred.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory practices, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Ability to train and provide direction to laboratory personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory experiments and documents research data.
• Manage laboratory mouse colony and coordinate operations.
• Train laboratory personnel and supervise students and fellows.
• Perform molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and RT-qPCR.
• Perform histological techniques, mouse surgical procedures, imaging and physiological recordings.
• Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors, obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, and arrange equipment demonstrations.
• Assist with onboarding of personnel and maintenance of protocols and documentation.
