Job summary

Texas A&M University seeks a Research Specialist I to implement field data collection on sponsored wildlife projects. You will gather samples, manage field equipment, and contribute to reports.

The role requires a bachelor's in wildlife management, 4 years of relevant experience, ability to operate off-road vehicles and firearms for humane euthanasia, and willingness to work weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management or closely related field.
  • 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to operate off-road vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience with firearms to euthanize wild animals.
  • Safe conduct of animal trapping.
  • Use of computers to enter data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to obtain Class C Driver's License.
  • Preferred: License to Carry Firearm.

Responsibilities

  • Implement field efforts to collect data from wildlife on sponsored projects.
  • Collate, curate, and analyze data collected in field related to pathogens from feral swine in livestock, wildlife, environment, etc.
  • Maintain field equipment and prepare reports.
  • Trap, handle, and/or euthanize captured wild animals.
  • Operate and maintain safety in all operations of agency vehicles and/or equipment, including firearms.
  • Work beyond normal business and/or work on weekends as needed.

Position Information

Required Qualifications

Salary

Compensation for this position is commensurate based on the selected candidate’s qualifications.

Position Funding

This position is grant funded and availability is contingent on grant funding.
