Google DeepMind in San Francisco and Mountain View is seeking a Research Scientist to develop cutting-edge social simulation techniques powered by large language models. You will build frameworks that simulate human behavior at scale, ensuring diversity and societal relevance.

You will collaborate with machine learning researchers, social scientists, and engineers to formulate metrics, run experiments, and publish high-impact findings in top AI and social science venues.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Computational Social Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• 2 years of experience publishing research in machine learning or NLP conferences or journals (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, COLM).
• 2 years of experience in one or more areas: social impact of AI, reinforcement learning, multimodal agents, computational social science, or natural language understanding.

Responsibilities

• Drive research projects by defining key questions and hypotheses.
• Design, implement, and evaluate experiments to produce clear answers.
• Publish findings in top conferences and journals and stay current with advances.
• Collaborate with internal and external experts across domains.
• Translate research into real-world impact by contributing to Google products and services.
