University at Buffalo’s Department of Ophthalmology at the Buffalo VA Medical Center seeks a Research Scientist to join Dr. Sangita Patel’s lab. The role focuses on corneal endothelium physiology, extracellular matrix studies, and responses to cell injury, moving ideas toward bench work and guiding future investigation.

You will establish protocols, perform experiments, analyze data, prepare reports and publications, and mentor junior team members in a collaborative lab environment.

Job description

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Research Scientist. Dr. Sangita Patel’s lab, Department of Ophthalmology at the University at Buffalo, is located at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. Dr. Patel’s lab studies the physiology of the corneal endothelium, the cell layer that maintains transparency of the cornea. Current projects are focused on studies of the extracellular matrix of the corneal endothelium and responses to cell injury. The Research Scientist is expected to be able to move projects from the idea phase to the bench, including interpretation and presentation of findings, and guiding future areas for investigation.
