Job summary

ByteDance seeks a highly qualified researcher to join Multimedia Lab in the US to advance multimodal foundation models for intelligent multimedia processing. You will design and optimize image/video compression algorithms and contribute to standardization efforts.

The role emphasizes publishing impactful work, developing novel codecs, and collaborating with top talent on scalable challenges in multimedia tech.

Qualifications

PhD in Software Development, CS, CE or related technical field.
Strong CS fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, software design) and problem solving.
Publications in academic conferences/journals in the field.
Rich experience/interest in multimedia standards (image/video compression).
Familiar with C/C++.
Good team spirit and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, implement, and optimize creative algorithms for image/video compression.
Develop novel algorithms for file formats, system, and transport protocols.
Research and develop image/video processing and objective metrics for quality evaluations.
Participate in standardization forums: MPEG, DASH, 3GPP, JVET, AVS.
Follow up on state-of-the-art algorithms in standards work and papers.
Draft standard contributions, patent applications and academic papers.
