Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine in Richmond is seeking a Research Scientist to join the Microbiology and Immunology Lab. The successful candidate will work on NIH-funded projects studying Orientia tsutsugamushi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum, develop genetic tools, and analyze host cell interactions.

Responsibilities include lab maintenance, data generation, manuscript and grant writing, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• PhD or MD/PhD required with postdoctoral experience.
• Experience with obligate intracellular bacterial pathogens.
• Strong background in cell biology, microscopy, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bacterial genetics.
• Demonstrated ability to pursue extramural funding (NIH R-awards or equivalent).
• Excellent manuscript and grant writing skills and oral communication.

Responsabilités

• Maintain Orientia tsutsugamushi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum infected cell cultures.
• Develop genetic tools for Orientia tsutsutsugamushi and study pathogenesis.
• Investigate host cell interactions, signaling, and immune modulation.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to lab management.
• Prepare manuscripts, grants, and abstracts for dissemination.
