Job summary

Avalere Health is seeking a Research Scientist I to join its Evidence & Strategy Practice in the Washington, DC area. The role focuses on developing value-based assessments and supporting evidence generation through quantitative and qualitative studies using diverse datasets.

You will contribute to go-to-market strategies, leverage statistical modeling, and deliver advisory services to pharma, managed care, providers, and other healthcare clients. Hybrid/remote options available.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS or higher in a relevant field.
  • 3+ years SAS or SQL programming experience in a work setting.
  • Experience analyzing large administrative pharmacy and medical claims databases.
  • Experience with importing data, transforming, cleaning, merging, and editing data; data quality checks.
  • Working knowledge of basic statistical techniques and econometrics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data management to generate analytic-ready datasets using SQL and/or SAS.
  • Conduct descriptive and basic statistical analysis on large datasets to support economic/outcomes modeling.
  • Develop and troubleshoot code; resolve data issues and advise on high-risk decisions.
  • Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, and analysis plans.
  • Independently manage workflow and contribute to research and analysis processes.
  • Collaborate across analytics teams to deliver client value and ensure analytic output quality.

Avalere Health is seeking a Research Scientist I to join our Evidence & Strategy Practice. The practice focuses on a range of issues including developing value-based assessments and supporting evidence generation; quantitative, qualitative, and feasibility studies utilizing a broad range of open and closed source datasets; go-to-market strategies and tactics for an evidence-differentiated offering. We rely on deep subject matter expertise and understanding of the business issues facing our clients to assess how the changing healthcare evidence, market access and policy landscape impacts the pharmaceutical industry, managed care plans, providers, and consumers. We provide analytic support and advisory services, including legislative strategy, regulatory analysis, and quantitative modeling of proposed and enacted policies to a wide range of clients across the healthcare industry.

About the role
Research Scientist Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform data management activities to generate analytic-ready dataset, such as importing, transforming, merging and validating data to deliver accurate, reproducible results using SQL and/or SAS
  • Perform descriptive and basic statistical analysis using large patient and/or claims databases in support of economic and outcomes modeling to execute analysis plans and support client strategic objectives
  • Independently develops and troubleshoots code, resolves data issues, and seeks guidance on higher-risk methodological or client-impacting decisions.
  • Contributes to the development of concept proposals, scope of work, budgets, and analysis plans
  • Independently manages workflow and make direct contributions to the research and analysis process
  • Works within and across organizational analytics teams to identify areas for delivering innovation to clients
  • Ensuring the accuracy, quality, and consistency of analytic outputs.
About you
Skills, Experience, and Other Job-Related Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
  • BA/BS or higher in computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, data science, epidemiology, statistics or related discipline
  • 3+ years of SAS or SQL programming experience in a work setting
  • Experience analyzing large administrative pharmacy and medical claims databases (public and private)
  • Experience with importing data, transforming, cleaning, merging, and editing data and extensive quality/accuracy measures
  • Working knowledge of basic statistical techniques and/or econometric skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytical reasoning and decision-making skills and strong commitment to meeting goals and deadlines
  • Positive, flexible and self-motivated attitude, with excellent teamwork skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Comfortable working in a remote/hybrid environment with demonstrated ability to be productive and self-guided.
Additional Skills and Competencies:
  • Healthcare policy and analysis background
  • Experience with analyzing healthcare survey data (e.g Medical Expenditure Panel Survey and Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey)
  • Experience interpreting basic statistical output and analyses

$90,000 - $110,000 a year
