Job summary

Contra Labs is seeking a seasoned researcher to independently turn ambiguous client questions into rigorous research projects. You will design studies, collect data, and analyze results across creative and multimodal domains.

Based in San Francisco, you will own end‑to‑end engagements, collaborate with project leads and engineering teams, and produce client‑ready reports and publications.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of relevant research experience in HCI, Human‑Centered AI, ML, or design research.
• Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, including evaluation, data collection, and model behavior research.
• Proven ability to independently design and execute rigorous research from data collection to analysis.
• Ability to turn data and observations into new insights, directions, and actionable recommendations.
• Comfortable analyzing data with Python and/or SQL.

Responsibilities

• Translate ambiguous client questions into clear research questions, hypotheses, and study designs.
• Design human-data collection strategies, evaluation protocols, rubrics, annotation schemes, and experiments.
• Analyze qualitative and quantitative evaluation data and synthesize findings into recommendations and hypotheses.
• Own research engagements end‑to‑end from scoping to final delivery, collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
