Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a Learning Game and Tutor Research Programmer for the HCII/School of Computer Science. You will design and implement research software, extend existing apps, and analyze new algorithms, while documenting changes and managing code repositories.

The role involves setting up software for classroom use online and observing student interactions with learning materials, with emphasis on collaboration and rigorous engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience in research computing systems analysis, systems programming, database analysis and design or research computing.
  • Experience developing HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with Angular and React.
  • Knowledge of version control, OO programming and software engineering principles.
  • Unix-based OS, Docker, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
  • Working knowledge of Unity is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement software applications, often in a team setting, or modify existing software to meet research needs.
  • Maintain and extend existing applications and correct system bugs; test upgrades; update documentation.
  • Analyze alternative algorithms, new routines and system changes and suggest program changes.
  • Document new designs, codes, and modifications.
  • Manage software code repositories.
  • Set up software to run in classrooms over the Internet.
  • Work in classrooms, observing how students use learning materials.
