The position coordinates and independently executes research involving multiple neuromodulation approaches, including transcranial magnetic stimulation, deep brain stimulation, temporal interference stimulation, transcranial alternating and direct current stimulation, and focused ultrasound.
The position requires advanced scientific and technical expertise in neuromodulation, neurophysiology, neuroimaging, programming, and experimental design. It serves as the laboratory's primary EEG subject matter expert, supporting multiple research projects that depend on this expertise. The Research Professional 5 independently leads significant research activities, develops experimental procedures and computational workflows, and provides scientific guidance and oversight to research personnel. The position includes formal supervision of undergraduate research volunteers and authorship or co-authorship of peer-reviewed publications. The Principal Investigator retains overall responsibility for the laboratory and research program.
Job Duties/Responsibilities: 55% - Independent Research, Scientific Leadership, and Technical Expertise Independently lead and perform complex research activities involving neuromodulation, electrophysiology/EEG, neuroimaging, and related neuroscience methods across multiple research projects. Exercise substantial independent judgment in developing and refining research approaches, experimental methods, data acquisition procedures, analytical workflows, and technical solutions to complex research problems.
Serve as the laboratory's primary subject matter expert in EEG/electrophysiology. Provide advanced scientific and technical expertise for multiple research projects that rely on EEG data acquisition, processing, analysis, interpretation, and integration with other neurophysiological and behavioral measures. Develop and refine EEG acquisition and analysis procedures, troubleshoot complex technical and methodological issues, and provide guidance to investigators, research staff, trainees, and collaborators regarding appropriate methods and interpretation of results.
Independently analyze and interpret complex research data and contribute to scientific conclusions and decisions regarding subsequent research approaches. Develop, evaluate, and implement research tools, computational workflows, protocols, and standard operating procedures to support rigorous and reproducible research.
Provide day-to-day scientific and technical leadership for research activities within areas of expertise. Direct and oversee the work of staff and trainees involved in these activities, provide technical and scientific guidance, review work for quality and accuracy, and ensure that research procedures and analytical methods are implemented appropriately. The position includes formal supervisory responsibilities in addition to scientific mentoring and technical oversight.
Lead and substantially contribute to dissemination of research findings.
