About the Position

The Research Physical Therapist is responsible for clinical support and data collection for study subjects, including coordinating appointments, tasks, and data collection.

This on-site position is assigned to the Joint Base San Antonio - Fort Sam Houston. A thorough government background check is required. The role involves work between San Antonio Military Medical Center and Lackland Ambulatory Surgical Center.

About the Projects

U of Sydney Project: This project tests the effectiveness of combined aerobic activity and CBT-I (SLEEPFIT) in treating chronic musculoskeletal pain, and explores neuroimmune pathways involved.

SEMPER Project: Aims to improve Musculoskeletal Health outcomes by embedding mindfulness-based interventions into military surgical care pathways, focusing on patients undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Salary Range

$80,000, based on market data, internal equity, and candidate qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Administer physical therapy treatments, including planning, coordination, and evaluation.
• Develop treatment procedures and programs.
• Monitor patient responses and modify treatments accordingly.
• Record data in medical records and develop clinical databases.
• Conduct research activities, data analysis, and prepare reports and publications.
• Evaluate patients and determine treatment needs for study subjects.
• Provide clinical support in virtual reality and treadmill testing environments.
• Make recommendations on braces, prostheses, and mobility aids.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, GCP, and infection control procedures.
• Participate in hiring, training, and supervising research personnel.
• Coordinate subject recruitment and research visits.
• Maintain confidentiality and regulatory documentation.

Qualifications

• Masters or Doctorate in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
• Current Physical Therapist license, maintained throughout employment.
• 3-5 years of physical therapy experience, preferably in orthopedics.
• Experience in research, healthcare, or non-profit sectors.
• Knowledge of IRB practices, human subject regulations, and research techniques.
• Familiarity with instrument motion analysis; knowledge of basic statistics is a plus.
• Strong communication skills, organized, detail-oriented, professional demeanor.
• Computer skills: MS Office; knowledge of Matlab, Cortex, Nexus, or Visual 3D desirable.
• Must be a US citizen, pass a government background check, and hold current BLS certification.
