Responsible for unit dose distribution including familiarity with medications, dosage forms and storage requirements. Communicates with pharmacists and nursing staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of medications. Prepares and repackages medications into unit of use products. Delivers medications, including controlled substances, to nursing areas and ancillary departments in accordance with established policies and procedures, and DEA and DPH regulations.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
  1. Restocks automated dispensing machines (ADSs) and floor stock medications. Follows relevant Epic workflows including but not limited to loading medications, dispensing doses, dispense tracking, and fulfilling cart fill items.
  2. Delivers all medication in compliance with all DEA, DPH & State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  3. Prepares and delivers IV medications in accordance with Federal USP 797 & USP 800 standards. Maintains records pertaining to IV admixtures, maintains cleanliness in sterile areas, and completes relevant Quality Assurance processes.
  4. Compounds non-sterile products and repackages bulk supplies of medications in unit of use packaging in accordance with all Federal USP 795 & USP 800 standards.
  5. Checks for expired medications within the pharmacy & automated dispensing cabinets. Ensures that all expired/damaged medications are disposed of in accordance with RCRA, OSHA & NIOSH regulations.
  6. Participates in the continued training of and provides mentorship to students and pharmacy technicians.
Required Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or GED required.
  2. License: Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee license is required.
  3. National Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credentials via PTCB or ExCPT required within 60 days of hire.
  4. Employee must remain in good standing with the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Pharmacy including maintenance of registration and fees.
  5. 0-2 years related work experience required.
  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. 3-6 months as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or retail setting.
  2. Has the ability to perform simple and complex pharmaceutical calculations.
  3. Familiarity with medications: generic and trade names, methods of administration, and conversion between metric and apothecary systems.
Pay Range

$26.50 - $35.67 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
