What will you be doing in this role?
The Research Nurse II provides hands‑on treatment, monitoring and follow‑up clinical analysis of patients participating in clinical trials. They ensure adherence to federal and regulatory requirements while delivering direct patient nursing care within the context of supporting clinical trial study implementation. Working collaboratively with the Principal Investigator, physicians and other research staff, the nurse triages, documents vitals, administers investigational drugs or interventions, and provides clinical educational services to participants and families. The role may also involve coordinating aspects of research, interacting with study participants, data compilation, patient recruitment and logistics, and training of other staff.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient nursing care to research participants, including administration of research interventions and specimen collection.
- Provides clinical education services to participants and families regarding study participation, current clinical condition, or disease process.
- Monitors research participants and reports potential adverse events to a member of the research team.
- Records research data (vital signs, research compound administered, participant responses) in approved source documents (medical record, data collection sheet).
- Triages patients by phone and provides clinical information; may coordinate patient visits to follow up on clinical issues and provide necessary care.
- Assists with recruitment and logistics of study participants.
- Completes and documents study participant enrollment, assessment/reassessment, education and follow‑up activities.
- Performs and coordinates study participant interventions as required.
- Serves as a liaison between study participants and the PI or other research staff.
- Prepares data spreadsheets for the investigator and/or department.
- Completes case report forms.
- Assists with data compilation and documentation.
- Assists with training staff.
- Processes, ships, tracks or otherwise handles research specimens.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Associate of Science degree in Nursing (ASN) or College Diploma in Nursing (required).
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience Requirements
- 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
- 1 year of clinical research experience.
License & Certification Requirements
- Valid and current California RN license required upon hire.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required upon hire.
