Job summary

Cornerstone Research is hiring a Research Librarian to provide research and reference services for business, legal, and specialized information sources to consultants and administrative staff. The role supports business development research and requires MLS and 3+ years of relevant experience.

The position offers a hybrid work model with 2–3 days in the office per week and access to a broad set of databases including CapIQ, Bloomberg, and Westlaw.

  • Conduct complex domestic and international research using appropriate databases and tools; guide consultants to relevant sources.
  • Evaluate sources for currency, reliability, relevance, and cost-effectiveness; select best sources for requests.
  • Interface with experts, law firms, agencies, libraries, and organizations; represent the firm professionally.
  • Develop expertise with library resources and research databases; train staff and consultants on databases or topics.
  • Support at least one practice area with business development research, including docket/tracks and literature searches.

Role Overview

If you are an experienced Research Librarian looking to showcase your research and reference service skills, we are looking for you.

The Research Librarian will primarily provide research and reference services for business, legal, and specialized information sources to consulting and administrative staff for billable casework. The role also supports business development research such as attorney tracking, case tracking, and case document research.

How You’ll Help the Team Succeed
  • Conduct complex domestic and international business and legal research using appropriate databases and tools and direct consultants to relevant sources.
  • Evaluate diverse information sources for currency, reliability, relevance, and cost-effectiveness, then choose the best sources to answer research requests.
  • Interface with experts, law firms, agencies, libraries, and organizations; represent the firm professionally.
  • Compile and organize research information into a coherent, focused collection, including explanatory notes where relevant.
  • Develop expertise with the library’s information resources, especially research databases and the physical collection.
  • Maintain awareness of current developments on legal news and information services, particularly new specialized databases relevant to the firm’s practice areas.
  • Recognize new information resources and recommend acquisitions to the Associate Director, Information Resources and Senior Director, Information Resources.
  • Provide orientation and instruction regarding the library’s resources and work effectively with the IR department.
  • Prepare and conduct training for consultants and staff on specific databases or topics, either in formal sessions or on demand.
  • Support at least one practice area in business development needs, including docket tracks and searches, literature searches, expert searches, and more.
What You Need to Be Successful
  • 3+ years of relevant experience with increasing capability and responsibility; professional services experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of financial and economic databases such as CapIQ, Eikon, and Bloomberg, and legal databases such as Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Lexis, and Lex Machina.
  • Proficiency with a variety of databases and research tools.
  • Desire to take initiative and contribute to the team and firm.
  • Effective and professional communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to learn the firm’s financial and operational functions.
  • A mindset focused on providing superior service.
  • Significant experience in a corporate library setting and advanced subject‑specific resource knowledge.
  • Ability to commute to the assigned office and comply with a hybrid work policy of 2–3 days in office per week.
  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) required; a master’s in another specialty may be considered if you have significant related research experience.
Compensation
  • Base Salary Range: Individual base compensation tailored to your location and experience level.
    • San Francisco: $83,200 - $110,500
    • Los Angeles: $76,600 - $101,700
  • Annual Performance Bonus: Eligible for a discretionary bonus with a target of 5%.
    • Bonus awarded based on individual impact and collective firm success.
