Job description

The laboratory of Dr. Ryan LaLumiere in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences is seeking a full-time post-baccalaureate research intern. The research intern will assist with experiments in the laboratory focused on drug seeking and memory consolidation; help to manage the laboratory; and ensure regulatory compliance for all aspects of the laboratory.

Education Requirement:
  • A bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or related field.
Required Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of oral and written communication techniques and relationship-building skills and the ability to clearly communicate and work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive manner.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of organization.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use office support tools available on the desktop (e.g., word processing, email, presentation software, and spreadsheets).
  • Willingness to commit to a workweek of Tuesday through Saturday with Sunday and Monday as days off.
  • Willingness to work with rodents.
  • US citizenship or permanent residency is required to participate in the UI Postbaccalaureate Research Intern program.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Ability to maintain compliance with different departmental, university, and government rules and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve problems independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and keep experiments organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with very small instruments and equipment.
  • Database management and data entry skills.
  • At least 6 months of experience working with rodents, especially rats.
