Software.org: the BSA Foundation in Washington, DC is seeking a Research Intern to join a small team working on technology policy and workforce development. The role offers hands-on exposure to digital transformation, AI, data privacy, cybersecurity, and policy research in a nonprofit setting.

Responsibilities include research, updating databases, drafting content for reports and communications, and supporting events and data collection while maintaining flexibility to work at least 20 hours per

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate status at an accredited university.
• Rising junior, senior or graduate student preferred.
• Interest in global software industry and public policy.
• Strong writing and analytical skills, oral communications, and listening skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent internet research skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Must possess a proactive, can-do attitude.
• Experience with CRM systems a plus.

• Assist the Software.org team with daily work and monitoring relevant events.
• Conduct research on emerging technology policy issues such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data privacy, cybersecurity, and workforce development. This may involve reviewing relevant literature, analyzing data, and synthesizing findings to contribute to the foundation’s publications and reports.
• Update internal databases and tracking documents.
• Assist with the development of content for internal and external communications. This may involve conducting research, writing drafts, and reviewing/editing materials to help promote the foundation’s work and key messages.
• Other special projects as-needed.

The Research Intern will work as part of a small team on activities that support Software.org’s goals, priorities, and reputation. The intern will develop knowledge of Software.org, its supporters, and the foundation’s key emerging technology policy issues, including digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data privacy, cybersecurity, workforce development, and more. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public policy. Candidates must be able to work at least twenty (20) hours a week with the flexibility to work additional hours if desired. This is a hybrid/remote internship opportunity.

Professional Experience And Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate status at an accredited University required.
