Job summary

The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center invites applications for a PhD-level researcher focused on cardiomyocyte biology and protein biochemistry. You will isolate mouse cardiomyocytes, maintain colonies, and perform cell/molecular assays, including mechanotransduction and fluorescence microscopy, to uncover molecular mechanisms of stress responses.

• PhD required (0-1 years experience)
• Strong publication record with at least one first-author paper from PhD studies

• Experience with Lagendorff heart system is a plus
• Experience maintaining mouse colonies; cell/molecular biology and protein biochemistry

Responsibilities

• Perform research focusing on protein biochemistry including cell fractionation, organelle and protein purification, fluorescence microscopy, cell biology, and mechanotransduction assays to understand the molecular basis of cardiomyocyte survival under stress conditions.
• Isolate primary mouse cardiomyocytes for various assays; maintain mouse colony and collect tissues; develop new experimental approaches to advance the project and the lab’s research efforts.
• Perform cell and molecular biology assays
• Help with ongoing research projects in the lab
• Write scientific manuscripts describing research findings; present data at lab meetings, seminars at TLI and national meetings.

Duties And Responsibilities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Must have a PhD (0-1 years experience)
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and discuss findings.
• Strong publication record, including at least one first author paper either published or in pre-print form from your PhD studies.
• Willingness to learn new techniques, share expertise, and contribute to the collective success of the team.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Experience with the Lagendorff heart system for isolating mouse primary cardiomyocytes is a plus.
• Cell and molecular biology and protein biochemistry.
