Job summary

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking an engineer/scientist to develop data analytic tools for the Intelligence and Defense communities. You will translate ideas into software tools, optimize algorithms, and participate in evaluation of performance within a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires strong analytical skills, hands-on problem solving, and experience with Python and ML libraries. A security clearance eligibility is required for certain programs.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in relevant work.
• Strong software development skills and proficiency in Python.
• Solid mathematical foundation (linear algebra, probability).
• Experience in data modeling and analytics, ML, probabilistic modeling, or intelligent agents.
• Ability to preprocess and transform data, understand basic SQL or data storage concepts.
• Proficiency with PyTorch, NumPy, Pandas/Polars.
• Familiarity with software engineering best practices including testing, version control, and code review.

Responsibilities

• Develop data analytic tools and techniques for the Intelligence and Defense communities.
• Translate ideas and proposed solutions into software tools and algorithms.
• Improve/optimize/tune existing algorithms and develop new algorithms from scratch.
• Software design, development, and debugging/issue resolution.
• Evaluate algorithm and system performance through hands-on experimentation.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists.
