Job summary

University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) seeks a Programmer Analyst to translate complex specifications into actionable data extraction plans and to prepare data for in-depth analysis. You will work with researchers to configure cohorts and validate results using Python, SQL, SAS, R, or Stata on electronic medical records and claims data.

You will collaborate with researchers and PhD statisticians to produce robust analyses, generate reports, and ensure findings are ready for publication,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• 3+ years of experience with data manipulation and data quality control.
• 3+ years of experience in statistical analysis and modeling.
• Proficiency with SAS, Python, R, or SQL.
• Experience working with large (>50Gb) datasets.
• Experience with electronic medical/health services data (e.g., SEER/EPIC/claims data).
• Research environment experience.
• Knowledge of bioinformatics methods, programming design, and data structures.
• Understanding of relational databases, web interfaces, and operating systems.
• Solid communication to work cross-functionally and manage projects.

Responsibilities

• Interpret complex requirements to identify correct data extraction fields.
• Apply analytical techniques for validation and cleaning; prepare data for analysis.
• Select patient cohorts and configure data to researchers’ specifications.
• Ensure data values meet researchers’ expectations.
• Manage and interpret large data volumes to derive insights.
• Support researchers using Python, SQL, SAS, R, or Stata with EMR and claims data.
• Produce detailed reports, charts, tables, and figures to convey findings.
• Apply complex statistical analysis with PhD statisticians to interpret results.
• Refine data analysis based on feedback; ensure results are ready for publication.
