Job description

The Department of Investigational Cancer Therapeutics conducts broad Phase 1 studies across disease boundaries and molecular targets. We strive to provide outstanding patient care while performing innovative Phase 1 trials with new drugs that may eventually improve the management of cancer.

The primary purpose of the Research Data Coordinator is to provide administrative and patient care services for the coordination of research studies. Coordinates and gathers patient data for research studies.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical research team. They are highly organized, analytical, and committed to data accuracy and quality, with the ability to learn and navigate multiple data systems and databases. Prior experience in data entry, clinical research, healthcare, or research data collection is preferred. Familiarity with electronic data capture systems, research databases, clinical trial management systems, Microsoft Excel, and working with sponsors or monitors is a plus. A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.

Salary: Minimum $21.15/hour - Midpoint $26.44/hour - Maximum $31.73/hour. This is a remote within Texas only position with expectations to potentially come onsite once or twice a month based on business needs.

Responsibilities
Protocol Administration & Regulatory Coordination
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with internal reviewers, pharmaceutical sponsors, and governmental agencies as requested by study investigators
  • Complete forms and ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations for study initiation, conduct, and termination
  • Coordinate and send protocol-related materials and correspondence to institutional, state, and federal agencies
  • Prepare required reports for sponsoring agencies, including monthly, semiannual, and annual reports for NCI studies
  • Inform sponsors and collaborators of protocol regulatory status during formal departmental protocol review meetings
  • Collect specimens as outlined in assigned research protocols
  • Maintain systems for tracking protocol documentation, paper flow, grants, and reference files
  • Maintain and update protocol reference materials
  • Assist with preparation of scheduled status reports describing interim study data using the Patient Data Management System
Patient & Clinical Research Support
  • Assist research nurses and clinical research personnel with patient-related activities
  • Answer and screen office phone calls professionally and effectively
  • Collect special blood and tissue specimens accurately and within required timeframes
  • Transport specimens to designated locations according to protocol requirements
  • Prepare tissue specimens according to protocol specifications
  • Support clinical research activities to ensure compliance with study protocols
Research Data Management
  • Review medical records and extract required research data points
  • Enter patient information into electronic databases and case books
  • Conduct survival follow-up calls and accurately document collected information
  • Maintain accurate and current patient flowsheets
  • Record toxicities, adverse events, follow-up visits, dose modifications, and other protocol-required information
  • Ensure research databases and study records remain complete and up to date
Professional Development & Compliance
  • Attend department research meetings and conferences
  • Participate in approved off-site meetings, conferences, and educational opportunities
  • Supplement knowledge through reference materials, lectures, and training resources
  • Maintain punctual attendance at professional functions
  • Coordinate coverage and notify appropriate staff when absent
  • Understand and adhere to clinical trial policies and procedures described in departmental training materials
  • Participate in weekly training meetings to maintain clinical research knowledge
Research Operations & Administrative Support
  • Develop and maintain organizational systems for research meetings, deadlines, and study-related activities
  • Generate professional documents using word processing, spreadsheet, and related software applications
  • Assist in coordinating and preparing monthly protocol review updates
  • Communicate upcoming deadlines, meetings, and action items to appropriate individuals
  • Enter monitor visits for the department, CTRC, and Pharmacy into Clinic Station
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by department leadership
EDUCATION
  • Required: A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: A Bachelor's degree
