Job summary

Sgtc in Covina, CA invites applications for a FULL-TIME Research Chemist. You will conduct GC/MS analyses to determine sample composition and perform various physical property tests to support R&D in fracturing and Enhanced Oil Recovery, including friction reducer and surfactant formulation work.

The role requires a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Chemical Engineering, plus at least 6 months of chemical engineering research experience.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required in pharmaceutical sciences or chemical engineering.
  • At least 6 months of research experience in chemical engineering (academic or industrial).
  • Knowledge of GC/MS analysis and high-temperature, high-pressure reactors for polymer testing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydration, loop and salinity tolerance tests for PAM products.
  • Conduct GC/MS analyses to determine sample composition.
  • Support new product development in fracturing and EOR applications.
  • Perform high-temperature viscosity, density, and surface tension testing and data analysis.
  • Maintain laboratory protocols and QC plans; document progress and calibrations.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab instruments (balances, pH meters, rheology equipment).
  • Organize oilfield samples and coordinate with sales and other departments.

Job description

We have opening for FULL-TIME Research Chemist in our Covina, California office.

Duties includes:

Conducting technical support tests include hydration tests, loop tests, and salinity tolerance tests for Polyacrylamide (PAM) products.

Conducting GC/MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) analysis to determine the chemical composition of samples.

Support new product development in fracturing and EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) applications, including friction reducer and surfactant formulation development.

Perform different physical property testing and data analysis, including high-temperature viscosity testing, specific density testing with densitometer and surface tension measurement, which helps the R&D team optimize the formulation.

Generate protocols and guidance of quality control experiments for both lab and manufacturers, which requires a deep understanding of company product lines and the quality issues may encounter, and good communication skills among different companies to execute the quality control plan as expected.

Document progress on projects via monthly reports and end-of-project summary. Record properly on equipment calibration, experiment record, equipment maintenance, etc.

Contribute to projects assigned to other members of the research team and participating in training, process scale-up, and field evaluation of researches . Offer technical support upon the need of other departments such as sales department.

Perform regular calibration and maintenance of instruments including balances, pH meter, rheology equipment including rotational viscometer, High temperature viscometer, elastometer, friction reduction system including the pipes, mass and volumetric flow meter and a progressive pump.

Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies by establishing standards of procedure, arranging equipment service, checking stock of chemicals and parts for equipment.

Organize samples for oilfield production and other qualifications or experiments.

Special Requirements:

Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering.

6 months of research experience in chemical engineering (academic or industrial)

Must have knowledge in GC/MS Analysis and High-temperature, high-pressure reactors for polymer performance testing.
