Job summary

The Nima Sharifi Laboratory at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine seeks a Research Associate to support Mass Spectrometry applications for translational and clinical research. You will collaborate with investigators and a top urology team to define biochemical and clinical behavior of genitourinary disorders.

Responsibilities include collecting/analyzing data, interpreting protocols, and designing methods for MS studies while ensuring good research practice.

Qualifications

• B.S. in biochemistry, chemistry, or related field required; M.S. preferred.
• Experience analyzing MS-based projects with minimal supervision.
• Hands-on experience with LC/MS instrumentation and sample prep.
• Experience with biomarkers or small molecule analysis is valued.

Job description

The Nima Sharifi Laboratory (Desai Sethi Urology Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine) is seeking to recruit a Research Associate to support Mass Spectrometry applications for translational and clinical research. This position will partner with principal investigators and an outstanding clinical urology team with the goal of defining the underlying biochemical and clinical behavior genitourinary disorders to identify new strategies that will lead to durable clinical benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data.
• Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
• Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
• Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
• Designs, evaluates, and implements methods and protocols for assigned research projects.

Education:

• B.S. in biochemistry, chemistry, or another relevant field required (M.S. preferred)

Experience:

• Ability to analyze and interpret MS based projects with minimal oversight.
• Proficient in basic statistical methods and design of MS experiments and techniques.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience in a research or laboratory environment including:
  • Working knowledge of LC/MS instrumentation, operation (Experience with AB Sciex/Agilent Systems Preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with sample preparation and extraction of small molecules from various biological matrices.
  • Hands-on experience with different chromatographic separation and mass spectrometry methodologies for analysis of biomarkers, or small molecules.
