Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED or AS with 6 years directly related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in vivo techniques: blood collection, injections, tissue processing, euthanization.
  • Maintain and document experimental data in notebooks or electronic files.
  • Manage small studies and train staff.
  • Perform oral gavage, IV, SQ, IP, IM injections in rodents; CO2/euthanasia as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with protocols and regulatory requirements.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Research Associate II to help advance Calico's drug research and development pipeline. This critical role will be responsible for performing required in vivo techniques. A successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and prior hands‑on experience with in-vivo animal laboratory techniques.

Additional Duties And Responsibilities Include
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic in‑vivo laboratory techniques, including blood collection, injections, tissue processing, and euthanization.
  • Develop an understanding of and regularly utilize available information resources and systems (e.g., SOPs, policies, computer applications).
  • Participate in experimental design and planning as well as assemble, set up, and operate any necessary experimental equipment.
  • Conduct laboratory procedures in compliance with established protocols/plans and with regulatory and laboratory requirements.
  • Document experimental data in technical notebooks or approved electronic files including activities undertaken, existing conditions, observed results and variation from expected data patterns.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health/welfare and experimental procedures as well as prepare data for inclusion in project reports.
  • Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and understanding in his/her assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ability to manage small studies and train staff independently
  • Able to perform the following techniques: Oral gavage in rodents, IV, SQ, IP, IM injection techniques in rodents. Blood collection techniques to include tail vein in rodents, orbital sinus in rodents and cardiac in rodents, Necropsy and tissue collection
  • Rodent euthanasia via exsanguination preceded by administration of CO2 or anesthesia; cervical dislocation preceded by administration of CO2 or anesthesia; or, administration of CO2.
  • Experience using various cell and molecular biology techniques to examine cell/tissue and biomaterial interactions
  • Interact with other personnel within the department, key support groups and the division, to develop a network of resources to facilitate completion of assignments.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Research Associate II position.

  • Master's of Science degree in a Life Science discipline, such as biology, veterinary science, or a related field
  • Two (2) years directly related work experience in laboratory animal husbandry and technical skills as detailed above required.

OR

  • Bachelor’s of Science or Associate of Science degree in a Life Science discipline, such as biology, veterinary science, or a related field
  • Four (4) years related experience or CVT/LVT/RVT certification
  • Four (4) years directly related work experience in laboratory animal husbandry and technical skills as detailed above

OR

  • High School diploma/GED or Associates Degree
  • Six (6) years directly related work experience in laboratory animal husbandry and technical skills as detailed above required.
Certification/Licensure
  • AALAS Certification at the LATg level preferred.

The pay range for this position is $35 to $47 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
