The Allen Institute is seeking a Research Associate I to join the light microscopy team in the Connectomics Department, Seattle. The role focuses on connecting anatomy and connectivity with molecular identities, using tissue expansion and volumetric lightsheet imaging for fluorescence.
You will work in a collaborative, team-science environment and contribute to open science initiatives. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in a relevant field and have experience with microscopy, molecular biology,
The Allen Institute accelerates science for a healthier world through large-scale research designed to answer some of the most complex questions in biology. Our multi-disciplinary teams generate foundational knowledge, tools, and data to understand how our brain, cells, and immune system work. We share our work openly so others can build on it, move faster, and ask bigger questions. We drive discovery forward and create new possibilities for improving human health.
The goal of our Brain Science accelerator is to produce three interlocking resources: cell type atlases that catalog every kind of brain cell across ages and species, connectomes that chart the brain's intricate wiring, and a knowledge platform that knits it all together with powerful analysis tools. Every dataset is freely shared, so discoveries made here fuel discoveries everywhere.
We are seeking a Research Associate I to join the light microscopy team in the Connectomics Department, which aims to link anatomy and connectivity of neurons with their molecular identities and organization at the level of synapses, cells, and neuronal circuits. The Research Associate will contribute to our work to optimize and scale light microscopy-based connectomics in a research program combining tissue expansion and advanced volumetric lightsheet microscopy for fluorescence imaging of ultrastructure with molecular contrast. The successful candidate will be highly organized, self-motivated, and excited to work in a collaborative, team science-oriented environment. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the nascent and rapidly developing discipline of light-based connectomics, as well as first-hand experience with cutting-edge tools, data, and insights from the connectomics field.
At the Allen Institute, we believe that science is for everyone - and should be open to everyone. We are dedicated to combating biases and reducing barriers to STEM careers more broadly.
