Job summary

Biolinq is seeking a Research Associate to contribute to the design, synthesis, and evaluation of next-generation intradermal biosensor architectures. You will work within a fast-paced team of engineers and scientists, performing experiments, data collection, and analysis to advance wearable biosensor technology.

The role requires a BS in a related field and 2–4+ years (or MS with 0–2+ years) of lab experience, with strong electrochemistry knowledge.

Qualifications

  • BS degree or higher in biomedical, chemical, materials science, chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields.
  • 2–4+ years with BS or 0–2+ years with MS, with a track record of excellence in scientific lab duties.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesize novel electrochemical biosensor architectures to validate hypotheses.
  • Maintain lab safety and equipment; prepare reagents and solutions.
  • Catalog materials and coordinate with suppliers for reagents and fixtures.
  • Perform automated electrochemical experiments, calibrations, and record results with QC.
  • Analyze large datasets to compare biosensor performance in vitro and in vivo.
  • Present frequent briefings on experimental motivation, methods and results.
  • Interface with engineering to integrate systems with biosensors and translate designs to development programs.

About The Company

Biolinq is a venture-backed digital health company developing a wearable biosensor platform that measures biomarkers important to the management of many clinical conditions including diabetes. This dynamic role is a part of a team of engineers and scientists developing a novel intradermal biosensor technology and the associated software data extraction and rendering SDK that will transform the way people manage their metabolic health. Biolinq is seeking a highly motivated, energetic team-player to be a research associate with the drive to deliver results in a fast-paced innovative space. The candidate will join a close-knit and dynamic team working on the leading edge of wearable biosensor science. They will contribute to the design, synthesis, and assessment of next-generation enzyme-based electrochemical biosensor architectures. They will be expected to contribute to ongoing research, make extensive use of proper laboratory practices, including preparing solutions, running experiments, and recording data. Location will be Biolinq's corporate headquarters in San Diego CA.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of scientific staff within the Innovation team, designing and synthesizing novel electrochemical biosensor architectures to validate scientific hypotheses
  • Maintenance of laboratory safety practices and areas such as cleaning or repairing laboratory equipment.
  • Preparing chemicals, reagents, buffers, and solutions to support laboratory activities
  • Cataloging and ordering raw materials or required laboratory goods which may include communication with suppliers for custom reagents or laboratory fixtures
  • Executing automated electrochemical experiments, performing calibrations, and documenting results while following stringent quality-control measures designed to improve test-to-test consistency
  • Analyzing large datasets to comparatively assess biosensor performance in vitro and in vivo
  • Presenting frequent briefings to the team about the motivation, procedure, and results of recent experiments
  • Implementing statistical methods aimed at understanding significance of results obtained
  • Interfacing closely with engineering to effectively integrate mechanical / electrical systems with biosensors
  • Interfacing closely with R&D to translate early designs to broad-scope development programs
  • Other responsibilities, as required, to fulfill streamlined operations in the laboratory
Requirements
  • B.S. degree or higher in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields
  • Requires 2-4+ years of experience with B.S. or 0-2+ years of experience with M.S., along with a track record of excellence in performing technical duties in a scientific, bio-/chemical, or life sciences laboratory
  • Strong working knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical techniques.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity or previous research in enzyme-based biosensor, polymer chemistry, and/or surface chemistry development
  • Familiarity with programming languages and statistical tools such as Python and JMP
  • Excellent critical thinker; able to solve complex system-level challenges independently
  • Highly methodical, organized, and detail oriented. Able to follow close adherence to sensor synthesis and evaluation protocols with the mindset to quickly adopt new experimental protocols
  • Independent, self-motivated individual who holds the highest scientific standards coupled with the ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment and independently with minimal guidance
  • Experience with operating in a regulated environment (i.e. design controls per 21 CFR 820.30)
Working Conditions

Commensurate with general office and laboratory activities. Up to 90% of the time may be spent in a laboratory setting.

As part of our efforts to ensure fair and equal pay based on merit, Biolinq supports pay transparency internally and during the recruitment process. The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this role is: $65,000 to $75,000 per year. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. Actual compensation packages are commensurate with experience and based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including, but not limited to: skill set, depth of experience, education, certifications, and specific work location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the job across the U.S. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans. Biolinq also offers a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick time, parental leave), medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans and any written agreement between the parties.
