The University of Virginia's Department of Pharmacology seeks an Assistant Professor on the Research Support Track to develop an active research program focusing on regulation of gene expression by insulin and innate immune signaling. The candidate will employ molecular biology approaches and techniques such as ChIP, CUT&RUN, or related methods to map transcription factor binding sites.
Collaboration with faculty and trainees, mentoring of students, and contribution to manuscript and grant
The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia seeks to fill an Assistant Professor position on the Research Support Track. This position is tenure-ineligible.
The focus of this position is to develop a research program in regulation of gene expression by insulin and innate immune signaling pathways, with an emphasis on identifying direct target genes of transcription factors acting in these pathways. The successful applicant will have experience in molecular biology, methods to study gene expression, and methods including ChIP, CUT&RUN, or similar to identify transcription factor binding sites. Experience in at least one of these areas is preferred: Drosophila genetics, immunology, endocrinology, and/or metabolism. The successful applicant will develop new experimental systems and work collaboratively with faculty and other trainees.
Applicants must have PhD and/or MD degree(s) with 5-7 years relevant research experience by the start date. They will have experience in developing and using relevant experimental approaches and instructing others in their application. The qualified candidates are expected to have genuine enthusiasm for scientific research, an inclination to work productively in teams, and deep knowledge of literature in their field. The qualified individual is also expected to contribute to the writing of manuscripts and grants, and to develop and lead an independent research project that thematically fits the overall scope of the laboratory.
Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. For questions about this faculty position, please contact Dr. Michelle Bland, Associate Professor of Pharmacology at mlb2eg@virginia.edu
