Job summary

Uppsala University is seeking a research assistant to join the Government Department project on contested elections and street politics. You will collect and code data from newspapers, media, and interviews, and contribute to literature reviews and project logistics.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in political science and experience with data collection; proficiency in English and French is essential. This is a 7-month, 100% position based in Uppsala.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in political science or related field.
• Experience collecting data and coding.
• Attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Knowledge of authoritarian rule and social movements.
• Excellent proficiency in English (reading and writing).
• Good proficiency in French (reading and writing).
• Master’s degree or studies in political science or related field; experience as research assistant; data compilation experience; Excel experience.

Responsibilities

• Collect and compile primary and secondary data such as newspaper articles and other media material; data collections about electoral protests; grey literature; written documentation from protest movements; social media communication.
• Interpret and code interview data; conduct literature reviews; participate in project meetings; assist with planning, administration and logistics for project workshops; collaborate with project administration.
• Report to project leaders and cooperate with the project team.
