Job summary

Job description

Responsibilities

This part-time position works under occasional supervision at a specialized scientific research level requiring independent judgment.

Assist in publishing articles and papers; supervise and train lower-level classifications, lab technicians, and students.

Set up and operate complex scientific apparatus.

Perform independent research and assist with other research projects.

Plan, design, and implement research projects.

Prepare and maintain culture media, reagents, and grow cultures (cells, viruses, etc.).

Perform library research; prepare compounds; interpret experimental test data; cut, stain, and mount specimens.

Compile, process, and analyze data.

Document research procedures and results according to department guidelines.

Develop reports from research data gathered; maintain reports and records; code data for electronic data processing; input and retrieve data via computer; analyze, interpret, and verify data.

Conduct research in particular field of knowledge and assist with publishing data in professional journals.

Write reviews and edit various materials for publication.

Research articles from various sources.

Set up and operate various scientific apparatus: centrifuge, spectrometer, microscopes, homogenizers, etc.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research laboratory operating policies, procedures, and scientific methodology, including ability to operate and maintain research tools, instruments, and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the use and preparation of culture media, chemicals, reagents, and ability to perform a variety of laboratory procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing, including ability to analyze and extract data from conversation and documents for research projects.
  • Ability to independently conduct research following established department guidelines.
  • Strong supervisory skills and ability to effectively train and evaluate personnel on laboratory research methods and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to operate PC software and other office technology.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience.
  • One-year laboratory research support staff supervision experience.
