Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic RA I+ to support diverse laboratory research in molecular biology. You will perform routine and specialized experimental procedures, assist with planning experiments, and troubleshoot techniques while maintaining meticulous records and data analyses.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in Biological sciences with 1+ years in molecular biology labs and experience in culture, Western blots, DNA methods, and protein work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biological sciences; master's preferred.
• 1+ years of relevant research experience in a molecular biology setting.
• Experience with sterile tissue culture, Western blots and DNA techniques.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Job description

Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Utilizes specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment.

Some evening and weekend work will be required.

Key Responsibilities

• RA I plus; Troubleshoots procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. May suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings.
• Performs techniques typically required for the laboratory/study. RA I plus. Assists with planning specific research procedures, coordinating schedules of experiments and procedures.
• Develops and troubleshoots new techniques specific to the lab. RA I plus. Maintains accurate records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed. Compiles and helps analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
• RA I plus. Demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students. Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.

Minimum QualificationsEducation:

• Bachelor's degree in Biological sciences (Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, etc.), master's preferred

Experience:

• 1+ years of relevant research experience
• Experience in sterile tissue culture, Western blots, DNA extraction, minipreps, gene cloning, protein purification.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a molecular biology lab setting (apart from coursework-related labs at university)
• Ability to efficiently execute molecular biology protocols, multitask, and manage time effectively.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (excel, word, PowerPoint)
