Job summary

Howard University seeks a Research Assistant to support user testing and user-centered design of biometric technologies for audio captcha research. You will engage in regular sponsor updates, prepare briefs, and contribute to project deliverables using rigorous scientific methods.

The role involves collaborating with the RITA HQ Team, supervising undergraduates, and presenting findings through papers and talks to stakeholders. Bachelor’s in CS/CE/IS and ML/Data Science experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in CS/CE/IS; 5+ years in ML and data science.
• Strong programming experience in Python, Java, C/C, and R.
• Experience with ML frameworks and data processing formats such as JSON/XML.

Responsibilities

• Assist with AI research initiatives from conception to implementation.
• Analyze research data and translate findings into actionable insights.
• Collaborate across disciplines to integrate diverse expertise.
• Disseminate knowledge through scholarly papers and presentations.

JOB PURPOSE:

Research Assistant will assist with user testing and user centered design of biometric technologies necessary for creating audio captcha technology. The candidate should be well-informed about the scientific method, human subjects research, and data analysis using computational and statistical techniques. The Research Assistant will assist in preparation of briefs to the sponsor and engage in regular meeting updates to the sponsor on project deliverables.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Research Assistant will supervise and work alongside the undergraduate students. Research Assistant will contribute towards monthly reports, quarterly reports and scientific publications.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts include RITA HQ Team and the entire Howard University community. External contacts include as directed.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Assist with AI research initiatives from conception to implementation.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

• Mastery of programming languages (Python, Java, C++, C, R) and command-line scripting.
• Expertise in ML frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and data processing (JSON, XML).
• Exceptional communication and collaborative skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems,5+ years in machine learning and data science; advanced degrees may offset experience requirements
