Job Summary

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the College of Medicine is hiring a Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of a NIH funded Principal Investigator.

Essential Functions

  • Investigating molecular and cellular approaches to understand the essential pathways of malaria parasites, which could be targeted for the development of novel antimalarial drugs.
  • Perform CRISPR-based gene editing to study pathways related to pH regulation and mitochondrial functions of malaria parasites.
  • Cultivating P. falciparum parasites using human red blood cells, conducting conditional knockdown (or knockout) of essential genes, and performing phenotypic analyses of transgenic parasites using various experimental approaches.
  • Responsible for assisting the Principal Investigator with daily laboratory operations at the BSL2 level.
  • Handling infectious agents, laboratory chemicals and sterilizing equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Life Science or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
