We seek a highly motivated and organized individual to join our efforts to develop genome engineered blood stem cells as therapies for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Our laboratory integrates human genetics, genome engineering, hematology, and immunology to understand how human diseases arise and translate these findings to develop curative therapies.

This project focuses on engineering autologous blood stem cells and their progeny to dampen the excessive inflammation that is characteristic of IBD. The selected candidate will work on experimental research projects directly with the laboratory principal investigator and a post-doctoral fellow (80% effort) and will spend the remaining 20% effort assisting with organization, management, and maintenance of the laboratory. A highly motivated and productive research assistant may get the opportunity to lead an independent research project within the laboratory.

A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with formal study in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, or computational biology. The candidate must be a responsible individual with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in scientific research would be an asset. Experience with cell culture and flow cytometry are preferred but not required, but enthusiasm for learning such approaches is essential. Additionally, experience with mouse models would be highly valued but is not required.

This is a 40 hour/week full-time position with flexible hours and competitive salary/fringe benefits. Anticipated start date is May to July of 2026. A 2-year minimum commitment is required.

This can be a great transition opportunity for a graduating undergraduate student interested in pursuing a graduate and/or medical education after 2 or more years.

We have tremendously benefitted from working with a group of diverse research assistants in the past. Prior research assistants in the lab have had several co-author publications in major journals including Cell, Science, Nature, and The New England Journal of Medicine. This position would allow the individual to have close interactions with scientists and clinicians at Harvard Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the Broad Institute.

Please make sure you upload a cover letter and a CV/Resume. A lot of applications only have the CV and not the cover letter. Also, make sure both your cover letter and CV have your name included in the file name. Thank you
