Job summary

Mohawk Industries Inc. is seeking an experienced Research and Development Engineer to advance technologies and develop new materials for global flooring products. Based in Dalton, GA, you will conduct experiments, analyze results, and collaborate with product teams to translate lab innovations into scalable processes.

You will design and prototype new concepts, perform rigorous testing, and help transfer successful technologies to manufacturing, contributing to Mohawk’s leadership in the market.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; equivalent education/experience.
  • 2–4 years’ relevant experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control.
  • Able to set up, run and interpret results from a wide variety of laboratory test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Use scientific and engineering principles to develop new materials and products and create design specifications.
  • Conduct research to identify market trends, competitor products and emerging technologies.
  • Analyze data and literature to inform the development process.
  • Conceive and develop new process technologies.
  • Perform analyses, conduct research and draw conclusions about potential impacts.
  • Collaborate with product managers and design teams to conceptualize new products or improvements.
  • Design and fabricate prototypes.
  • Perform testing of laboratory prototypes using standard test equipment.
  • Analyze test data and make design modifications based on results.
  • Transfer new products and technologies from lab prototypes to production scale.
  • Provide process and technical support for R&D projects implemented in manufacturing.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

What you'll do:
  • Use scientific and engineering principles to develop new materials and products as well as create detailed design specifications to support R&D and manufacturing projects.
  • Conduct research to identify market trends, competitor products, and emerging technologies.
  • Analyze data and scientific literature to inform the development process.
  • Conceive and develop new process technologies.
  • Perform accurate analyses, conduct research, and draw meaningful conclusions about potential job/work-area impacts.
  • Collaborate with product managers and design teams to conceptualize new products or improvements to existing ones.
  • Design and fabricate prototypes.
  • Perform physical and analytical testing of laboratory prototypes using standard test equipment.
  • Conduct experiments to test prototypes and validate product performance.
  • Analyze test data and make design modifications based on results.
  • Help to transfer new products and technologies from laboratory prototypes to production scale.
  • Assist with process and technical support for R&D projects implemented in manufacturing.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
What you have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 2-4 years’ relevant experience or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control required.
  • Able to set up, run and/or interpret results from a wide variety of laboratory test equipment.
